This Week’s Music: After 5, Thalia Zedek, more

After 5 Flier

DJs Kim Sorise and Pat Luebbers (aka Electric Amish) are starting a new, early night called After Five at the Pink Door in the Douglass Loop. As you can see from the flier, it’s from 5 to 9 pm, perfect for getting an apres-work drink, or a start to your Friday night partyin’.

Thalia Zedek

Saturday night, one of my all-time musical heroines, Thalia Zedek, will be performing at the Pour Haus, 1481 S. Shelby Street in Louisville. Thalia’s been a member of some amazing bands over the years, including Come, Live Skull and Uzi — all of which have been characterized by Thalia’s excellently intense singing and guitar-playing. Her connection to Louisville is well-documented, having once recruited Tara Jane O’Neil and Kevin Coultas (both formerly of Rodan) to play on Come’s excellent 1996 release, Near Life Experience. Opening the show are local heroes Parlour (featuring Tim Furnish and Jon Cook, once of Crain), and Second Story Man.

Last but not least, the following record-buying information comes courtesy of Brett Eugene Ralph:

My dear friend Michael O’Bannon, world class artist and Louisville punk rock legend, is having a garage sale to raise money for Xmas. He’ll be selling lots of vintage vinyl records, including a huge collection of rare early punk rock picture sleeve singles, as well as books, movies, knick knacks, and his incredible paintings at affordable, ’tis-the-season prices. The sale will occur every weekend, noon to six, between now and Xmas. You won’t find a better opportunity to score cool, kick-ass gifts.

Weekends 12-6
Between now and Xmas

O’Bannon was once a member of The Blinders. I’ll definitely be hitting this up in the hopes of scoring something good.
